Starting from the Port of Kings Lynn, the transformers, which can weigh up to 272 tonnes,are a key part of the Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm, helping to deliver 2.9 GW of clean energy into the UK National Grid - enough to power more than 3 million homes.
The transformers will only be transported on Sundays during the day, to reduce the effects onthe roads, with the first journeys to take place on 18th and 25th January and 1st February. They will travel along the A47 past Swaffham and Dereham.
As the transformers are so large, they’ll be overseen by crews of between 4 and 5 people and even have their own police escort. In total, there will be nine trips on Sundays between January and July with each load carrying one transformer each time.
Households and Parish Councils directly along the route have been sent letters and emails respectively and upcoming dates will be posted in the construction updates section of the Hornsea 3 website.
